Showcase Boy’s Bedroom
This bedroom used to belong to the 12 year old son’s older sister. To transform it into a masculine room that can evolve with him through his teen years, I chose a calm palette of grays and deep navy blue with accents of natural materials.
Key features include:
- His existing desk was given a fresh new look by faux finishing the top to look like it was wrapped in galvanized steel.
- The wall between the closet and the door to the room was painted with a magnetic primer which transformed an underutilized wall into a functional focal point which he can easily change up with new sports schedules and photos. Unlike a cork bulletin board, there are no holes left in the surface when papers are moved around.
- The two vertical paint stripes that run down the desk wall and come back up the opposite wall add interest and tie together the different shades of gray and the indigo blue in the color palette.
- The large scale wall graphics of athletes in action are a tasteful way to reflect a person’s love of sports without becoming dated, since no specific athletes are shown. These are also easy to remove without damage to the wall should he want something different later on.
